This privacy policy applies to the SeaMemo app (hereby referred to as "Application") for mobile devices that was created by Kevin Baur (hereby referred to as "Service Provider") as a commercial service. This service is intended for use "AS IS".
The Application collects and processes the following categories of information to provide its core functionality:
Account information. To use the Application, you must create an account. We store your email address and an encrypted password hash. Your email address is used for authentication, password recovery, and essential service communications. We do not send marketing emails without your explicit consent.
Trip and logbook data. When you record a trip, the Application stores GPS coordinates, route data, timestamps, weather conditions you enter, crew information you add, journal entries, and any photos or voice memos you attach. This data is stored on the Service Provider's servers so it can be synced across your devices and is associated with your account.
Location data. The Application requires access to your device's location to record your sailing route while a trip is active. Location is collected only during an active trip session. The Application does not track your location in the background when no trip is running. You can revoke location permissions at any time through your device settings, though this will significantly limit the Application's core functionality.
Photos and media. Photos and voice memos you attach to a trip are stored on the Service Provider's servers. These remain private to your account unless you explicitly share a trip with crew members or other users.
Crew sharing data. If you invite crew members to view or contribute to a trip, the email addresses or share links you generate are stored to manage access permissions. Crew members you invite can see the trip content you share with them.
Friends and approximate location sharing (Crew Radar). The Application includes an optional feature ("Crew Radar") that lets you connect with other users as friends and share your approximate location with them. To find friends, you can search for other users by their display name or email address, and other users can find you the same way. When you send or accept a friend request, the other user receives a notification. Location sharing is off by default. Only if you switch it on, your approximate position is shared with your accepted friends, and only while a trip is actively being recorded. The shared position is deliberately coarse: your coordinates are rounded to roughly an 11 km grid before they leave your device, and only your single most recent position is stored — no location history is shared with friends. To display a readable place name (for example "Lisbon, Portugal"), the rounded coordinates are sent to a geocoding provider. Only friends whose requests you have accepted can see this position, and this restriction is enforced at the database level. You can turn location sharing off, or remove a friend, at any time within the Application.
Yes. The Application requires access to your device's precise location to record sailing routes. Location access is only used while a trip is actively being recorded in the Application. The Application does not track your location in the background when no trip is running. Your precise location is never shared with other users. If you enable the optional Crew Radar feature, only a coarsened (rounded) version of your position is shared with friends you have accepted, as described above. You can revoke location permissions at any time through your device settings.
The following third-party services process data on behalf of the Application:
Backend hosting and database providers store your account data, trip data, photos, and other content on secure servers. These providers process data solely on instruction of the Service Provider and do not use it for their own purposes.
Geocoding and map tile providers render the maps shown in the Application and convert coordinates into readable place names. Your IP address may be visible to these providers when map tiles are loaded, and coordinates you record — or, for the Crew Radar feature, your coarsened position — may be sent to them to resolve a place name.
Trip content remains private to your account unless you explicitly share it with crew members or other users through the Application's sharing features, such as inviting crew or sharing your approximate location with friends. No other third parties have access to data generated through the Application.
You can delete your account at any time directly within the Application. Open Settings and tap "Delete Account". Upon confirmation, your account, all trips, photos, voice memos, journal entries, friend connections, shared location data, and other associated personal data are permanently removed from the Service Provider's servers within 30 days. This action cannot be undone.
You can also stop all collection of information by the Application by uninstalling it. You may use the standard uninstall processes as may be available as part of your mobile device or via the mobile application marketplace or network. Note that uninstalling the app does not delete your account or the data stored on the Service Provider's servers. To remove that data, use the in-app account deletion feature or contact the Service Provider directly at apps@kevin-baur.com.
Account data and trip content are retained as long as your account is active. Upon account deletion, all personal data is removed within 30 days, except where retention is required by law. Anonymized, aggregated usage statistics may be retained for service improvement purposes.
The Application is not used to knowingly solicit data from or market to children under the age of 13.
The Service Provider does not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children. The Service Provider encourages all children to never submit any personally identifiable information through the Application and/or Services. The Service Provider encourages parents and legal guardians to monitor their children's Internet usage and to help enforce this Policy by instructing their children never to provide personally identifiable information through the Application and/or Services without their permission. If you have reason to believe that a child has provided personally identifiable information to the Service Provider through the Application and/or Services, please contact the Service Provider (apps@kevin-baur.com) so that they will be able to take the necessary actions. You must also be at least 16 years of age to consent to the processing of your personally identifiable information in your country (in some countries we may allow your parent or guardian to do so on your behalf).
The Service Provider is concerned about safeguarding the confidentiality of your information. Passwords are stored as encrypted hashes, never in plain text. Data is transmitted over encrypted connections (HTTPS) and stored using industry-standard security practices. However, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and the Service Provider cannot guarantee absolute security of your data.
This Privacy Policy may be updated from time to time for any reason. The Service Provider will notify you of any changes to their Privacy Policy by updating this page with the new Privacy Policy. You are advised to consult this Privacy Policy regularly for any changes, as continued use is deemed approval of all changes.
This privacy policy is effective as of 2026-06-30
By using the Application, you are consenting to the processing of your information as set forth in this Privacy Policy now and as amended by the Service Provider.
If you have any questions regarding privacy while using the Application, or have questions about the practices, please contact the Service Provider via email at apps@kevin-baur.com.
